Creating an application

You can create a custom application or extend an existing application. By using a wizard to generate the users, class structures, and other rules that you need, you can start development immediately.

Before you begin:
  • Ensure that any application that you plan to extend, including your production application, is configured for reuse.

  • If you plan to collaborate with people who do not have an operator ID, ensure that the Default email account is configured.

  1. In the Dev Studio header, start the wizard.
    • If you are logged into the PegaRULES application, click PegaRULES > New Application.

    • If you are logged into a different application, click Application name > New Application.

  2. Choose a type of application to create.
    • To build directly on Pega Platform, click Custom.
    • To extend another application, hover over the application name, and then click Learn more.
    • If you cannot find an application, click Search all types.
  3. Click Use this application type.
  4. If there are resources from the application that you can reuse, such as case types or data types, import them to your new application.
    1. In the Select case types section, select the check box next to each relevant case type.
    2. Click Continue.
    3. In the Select data types section, select the check box next to each relevant data type to import.
    4. Click Continue.
  5. In the Select primary device section, click the type of device that the majority of your customers use to access your application.
  6. In the Color scheme section, click a theme for your application.
  7. In the Name your application field, enter a unique name for your application.
  8. Optional: To configure a custom class structure or organization, click Advanced configuration. For more information about the settings that you can change, see Advanced settings for a new application.
  9. Click Create application.
  10. Optional: To develop your application more quickly, create a team.
    1. In the Add members field, press the Down Arrow key, and then select a user name or email address.

If you enter an email address that does not exist, a new user is created for you.

    2. Optional: To control which type of access the user has to your application, select a role in the list that is displayed.
    3. Click Add.
      CAUTION:
If an email account error occurs when you add a user, take note of the user ID and generated password, because the user may not receive these credentials in an email.
  11. Exit the wizard.
    • To start developing your application in App Studio, click Switch to new application.
    • To remain in Dev Studio, click Done.
