  About the Correspondence Output Server

Use the optional Correspondence Output Server (COS) facility to format and print outgoing correspondence to be formatted by Microsoft Word, operating in a background process. COS can also convert Word DOC files to PDF files, or transmit Word DOC files to a facsimile receiver. C-2438

The Correspondence Output Server operates on Microsoft Windows XP or Windows 2003 servers, using the PegaDISTRIBUTION Manager software component:

To print one or more correspondence documents, PRPC creates a ZIP file containing the Microsoft Word documents, which may be in RTF or HTML format. It places this ZIP file in a directory shared with the COS server, and notifies the COS server of the new file by adding a record to a Microsoft SQL Server database. Responding to this request, COS opens the ZIP file, unzips the archive, and prints or faxes the contents. Q-1620

The Pega-IntSvcs agent interacts with the COS database periodically to check for errors and purge records.

Consult PegaDISTRIBUTION Manager (IOS) Installation and Operations Guide for more information on this tool.

Install Microsoft Word 2000 or later on the COS server. If you want to fax out correspondence, install FACSys Fax Messaging Gateway 4.7 or later to support automatic fax transmission.

OldBefore 2002, this facility was known as IOS.
