v6.1 RSS Event Viewer

The RSS Event Viewer is a neat idea in v6.1. However, I have some quibbles:

1. The feed uses Atom and RSS2 element for pointing to the source website. However, neither of these URL's are our PRPC server. Both are hardcoded in pzEventFeed, a final rule:

<atom:link href="http://ec2-75-101-202-45.compute-1.amazonaws.com:8080/prweb/PRHTTPService/Events/RSS/Feed" rel="self" type="application/rss+xml"/>
<link>http://www.pega.com/</link>

2. The items are missing RSS2 <link> elements. While these are not required, certain feedreaders (e.g., Firefox) simply ignores any item without a link element. The downloadurl element (coming from the Microsoft-based cfi namespace) is used under each item, but it always points to the feed name.

3. The display on the developer dashboard portal includes additional information, such as the check-in comment. But this is missing from the RSS feed. The dashboard portal is nice, but it's missing an auto-refresh.

4. The classic downside with RSS is its horid inefficiency. A client is always requesting the entire historical feed. Ten years ago, people were proposing schemes for RSS querying, but to date nothing's been done.

So #3 and #4 point to a custom implementation for being able to track what people are working on. :-)

Also missing from the Event/NewsFeed are the Data-History updates, such as those written by TrackSecurityChanges. Is it possible to configure their inclusion? I see nothing in the docs.

Additionally, while the NewsFeed display filters by application, the single RSS feed does not. (I don't see why you couldn't extend the RSS URL in a REST-like faction to include basic querying).

Did the NewsFeed get lost in v7?
