Lucene Search Update Duration


We would like to know how often does the lucene search update its indexes, is that the setting in the Agent Queue rule? The "SystemIndexer" under "Pega-RULES: Core Engine Processing Agent"? Thanks.

Yes, it's the frequency with which the SystemIndexer runs.

There were times when users would be performing a Work Index Search (Lucene search) in PRPCv5.1sp2, and it would give the following error in the result screen:
Search failed because the Work index is unavailable. Please contact your System Administrator

If they try again, it'll work. We are guessing this is because the indexes were updating at the same time and so was unavailable for users. Yet this index updates every minute which is quite frequent, but we do not think it's a good idea to modify this time duration because it affects the Rule index and possibly other updates as well?
So is there any way to avoid the indexes being unavailable to users?

From Pega 6 onwards, there are two agents. SystemIndexer is used for only rules and SystemWorkIndexer is used for Data and Work instances.

Not really- SystemIndexer is used for rules and Data and SystemWorkIndexer is used only for Work instances.
