Also does the included work objects in Cover and Folder need to be directly or indirectly inherited from Cover- or Folder- classes respectively?

Prior to v6 no restriction.
From v6 you can define the max instances in Rule-Obj-CaseType rule definition.

Prior to v6, No support to cover within covers / folders with in covers. So, covered objects with in cover cannot inherit from Cover- / Folder-

From v6, Cover with in the cover is supported. So, covered objects with in the cover may inherit from Cover- / Object-

In all versions, Folders can contain folders / covers / objects. So, cover objects with in the folder may inherit from Cover- / Object- / Folder-

Hope this helps.

Few points to remember...

  • Rule-Obj-CaseType was introduced in V6.1 it will not be found in applications built in versions 4/5
  • Starting with V6.1 a cover can have another cover as a subcase. This was not allowed in versions 4/5
  • By default a work object is a WORK-COVER- in version 6/7 whereas it was a WORK-OBJECT- derivative in versions 4/5
