An access role rule defines a name for a role, and represents a set of capabilities. To deliver the capabilities to users, you reference the access role name in other rule types to assign the access role to users and to provide, or restrict, access to certain classes.

As an example:  I've observed in 6.2 SP2, While I'm trying to modify password for Administartor@Pega.com , I got an error saying "I don't have enoughf privilages",   these privilages defined in access role rules.

Another example is: If you don't have an access role "SysAdmin4" mapped in your access group you can't able to perform many of the administartive task's such as Modifying any operator record including your own, importing/exporting product rules etc.,

Hi Lawrence,

An access role is used to specify access rights to a requestor who has this role in the Access group. Access is defined for individual classes through Access of Role to Object rules which have this role as the first key part.
